From the talks in the 1930’s of Sokei-An Sasaki, the Zen teacher of Samuel Lewis:
“When you understand the unity between this and that, you and me—the entire world as just one mind working according to the same law of adaptability—you understand this law of unity. We also clearly understand the law of society, the law of the human being and of nature—the law of everything. The same law works in the human heart as in trees, weeds, and so forth. When I was studying painting, I understood clearly that the same law was working in the human being as in the leaf of a tree.”
